These are my first planned piebalds.
We are tickled about them.
They are just minutes old here.
They were the first 2 of 4 pups born Monday, 4/12/10.
Piebalds should be included in both AKC & DCA.

I believe that piebalds should be saved because they are my favorite. They are the best looking of all, and have the most variety. When you have a long coat with all the ticking in the feathery layers, it is beautiful! They are my favorite to raise.

I have owned, fostered, groomed and just plain loved dachshunds all of my life. At first I was a little stunned by the unconventional colors of dachshunds. But then I realized that a dachshund is a dachshund no matter what the color. They still have that wonderful little personality and build! Now I find them quite artistic! New (in color) but not Improved (you can't improve that precious little beast!)
I say please save these little Piebald rascals, allow them to show their true colors! Maybe a separate class or something if need be.

I went in search of a dachshund and the little polka dot ones caught my eye. My little girl Pebbles is my best friend in the whole world. She is always at my side to give me kisses. She makes me laugh, when she hops in my lap and stares at me until I give her the love she wants. She sleeps in bed beside me, her head on her Little Mermaid pillow and her body under the covers. She smiles for all 3billion pics I have made her take.

I have always loved the Dachshunds and have had several in the past. Cleo was a black and tan miniature and we loved her for 14 years. She was my best friend and companion for my husband and I. I saw an ad in the paper and called about it and they were piebald, which I was not familiar with. I found this site and saw the pictures and your petition and want to save the Piebalds. And we will get our first Piebald female next week, my Mother's Day gift.

We love our baby, Dude! And would only consider another piebald doxy! Dude was a surprise wedding present from Kyle to Kara in 2009 - she had always wanted a dachshund but could never imagine what coloring... until DUDE!

Yes, indeed do add my name to your list. I don't have a doxie, but they are as worthy to be recognized as any other breed.

I just purchased my first dachshund and after looking at so many different types it had to be a wirehaired Piebald. We can all say in unison...."My pup is the cutest in the world". Her name is Fee-Bee and she is 5 months old.

We'd Like to Sign the Piebald Petition!
I feel that color does not make standard in a breed size shape and stance make a standard in a breed the color is an add feature that enhances the breed appearance

My puppy Sasha is a chocolate and tan piebald.
She is the sweetest thing.
She has no flaws.
I hope they don't take the Piebald out of competition.
We are dachshunds too!

Here is my signature for your petition to save the piebalds.
We have a piebald named Xena and she is the best dog in the world.
She is beautiful and super smart!
I never understood why they are not accepted.
They are prettier dogs than just the plain red dachshunds
and they are such awesome pets.
In fact, right now we are currently looking for a new piebald puppy.
That's how we found your petition

I love the Piebald color.
They are just as beautiful as any other Dachshund!
I am looking for a little piebald now, I just haven’t found my little boy in shining armor yet, but when I do he should be recognized for his beauty too.

Yes save the Piebalds! I have one and he has every typical dachshund personality, he just has spots. Veterinarians recognize them as a breed so whats's the problem! Would a model be denied for having freckles? Go Piebalds!

I have been following your petition and results for awhile now. After a lot of research and delving deeper into dachshund history - I would like to sign your petition as well.
I have 1 blue piebald male and all my females carry the pattern. I am excitedly anticipating my first piebald litter. I do see that some look like short and long beagles. Even so, I think we have evolved enough to see the differences between a dachshund and a beagle no matter the pattern.
In my research it has been argued over the centuries to get rid of this pattern as reds, black/tans and chocolates are most preferred for hunting so they can blend in and can sneak up on their quarry.
Living in Alaska with hunting dachshunds - Yes - they track, flush and even engage whether it be a rabbit, moose, bear, squirrel etc. We depend on them to track wildlife...without the dachshunds to follow the trail - we have lost a few animals unable to follow the trail anymore.
Up here, hunting season starts on August 20th and lasts until mid November....it is also during this time the snow falls. I would rather send a piebald in the snow as they blend in better...the other colors stick out like a sore thumb.
I have attached a couple of pics of our pie boy Jax learning to track with just a tiny bit of snow on the ground and you can see how well he blends in the environment we do most of our hunting in. Depending on when we are able to go - there is often much more snow on the ground. So to me that argument is lost - Hunting doesn't stop just because the snow comes down.
The best thing about this breed is its versatility so why limit the myriad of options they can produce? IMHO, it would be pretty boring with nothing but reds and black/tans around. Maybe, just maybe dachshunds are so versatile and actually excel in any category they are moved to it intimidates other breeds?
Think about it - When AKC first formed they put dachshunds in the Sporting dog group then 2 years later they moved them to the Working dog group for 5 years then they were moved again to the hound group where they have stayed ever since....Dachshunds are the only breed to place high honors in 3 different groupings. Now we all know dachshunds are not hounds nor terriers but this is what they are put up against in the ring. At least the FCI has got it right and recognizes how special and versatile dachshunds truly are and have them in their own group.
If the piebald pattern were eradicated like many tried centuries ago, who's to say dapples, dilutes and chocolates won't be targeted next to be eliminated?

My mother was a breeder (Penryn, CA) Her favorite little double dapple long haired miniature dachshund (born 8/19/06) was named "Franky, for old blue eyes! His AKC name is Franky Nichols... He is the sweetest little dog in the world, and loved by all that see him walking along the boardwalk everyday in Coronado next to San Diego bay. Of course, they should be considered standard, why in the world would they not be????

I don't show my doxies, so I'm not up-to-date with the AKC standards.
However, I find piebalds to be unique in their own right and that they should be shared with ALL dog lovers in the arena! Their coats are beautiful and their temperament is wonderful (as with all doxies) and I plan to have a pie as my next doxie. Good luck with your endeavor.

My female dachshund, Grace, has a piebald father and she carries for piebald. Most of her pups also show white, carrying for piebald.
I wish she'd have one included in one of her litters!
Otherwise they are all black and tan with recessive piebald.
Please do not eliminate them from competition! Thanks!
