Since when does pattern or color has to do with the actual dog's performance or conformation. I can remember a time when other colors or patterns were not allowed in the show ring for other dogs. Let's get real about this. The people that have gotten our piebalds to join their families love the pattern. We call them our miniature bird dogs...... We love all of our dachsies including our PIEBALDS......

We have been a Bassett family seemingly forever. Until now, that is. With the addition of a miniature Bassett (a.k.a. the dachshund piebald) to Mom & Dad's liter of off-spring, I have become completely enamored with their character, style and pattern, especially in miniature! Doxies rule, but mini-Piebalds trump all.

Our Black and Tan Piebald snoopy carries as much of The Dachshund Standards
as a Red or Black and Tan. His coloring better portrays the courage and personality of the breed as a whole.
How can you resist those eyes!
Please save the piebald’s!!!

"I want to save the piebald pattern!!" They are beautiful, and it is important to keep genetic diversity in our lines of purebred dogs.

In America we are not suppose to discriminate against other people because of color or what they look like...why should we start with different breeds of Dachshunds??? I do not own a piebald as of yet, but I will hopefully own one this summer. I'm a teacher and I wanted to be home all summer while the dog is a puppy. I think they are absolutely gorgeous dogs and I can't wait to own one.

AKC, DCA, Please keep the Piebald coloration on the dachshund standards for coloration they are very beautiful and there are hundreds of Champions as piebalds. They are beautiful as are all the other colors. We need to keep the piebald coloration and not exclude the show ring to them either for if you change the color pattern and not except the piebald colorations there will be a great impact on the dachshund breed and breeders and show people with or without kennels and please do not make the decision to remove the piebalds coloration from your list they are just as good as any other in both long smooth or wire haired, I am pleading with you not to do this, you will impact many breeders and possibly take the bad to worse more puppymils etc please in all fairness to the dachshund keep the piebalds safe for it will have a devastation on us all as dachshund lovers.

I vote to retain the Piebald pattern in AKC/DCA Breed Standards.
The Piebald pattern is well established, with many Champions of record, many respected Kennels breeding and showing the pattern...how can that be simply "erased" as if it never occurred?
What is to become of those dogs and the diligent and caring people who have helped to highlight this wonderful part of the breed? Does the DCA want to retain and add new members of wither and die from lack of insight? Is AKC only interested in adding "designer dogs" to it's registry and not in upholding a true Dachshund genetic pattern?

I believe that all the color and pattern possibilities in Dachshund genetics need to be preserved and thoroughly gene-mapped. Too little is known yet regarding health issues that may or may not be color connected. The only way to establish if there IS any connection is for color and patterns to be bred and charted. This needs to be done responsibly and true results reported in order to help eliminate the genes responsible for dachshund health problems. The Piebald pattern has no proven relationship to any dachshund deficiency. They should NOT be eliminated from the Breed Standard.
