As you can see by the picture, Laci Mae is trying
to figure out what on earth is going on too! There is nothing wrong with
piebalds. Obviously someone has them confused with dapples or double dapples
why may have health issues. Not the piebalds though! I am a breeder and all
11 of my dachshunds are either piebald or carry for piebald. Excuse me, but
before piebalds are ban from the ring maybe someone should be a little
better educated about the breed!

Greetings! Being fairly new to the dachshund
breed, I had no idea that anyone didn't consider piebalds a recognizable
differentiation in the breed. Frankly, I sought out a piebald and was lucky
enough to find a marvelous breeder in the next state. And After living with
"Johnson" for close to a year, I'm having a hard time imagining ever having
a different breed of dog... and after all of the comments and compliments I
get on his coloring, I'd be hard-pressed to have another dachshund that
wasn't a piebald...

My wife and I are proud owners of Sir Nicodemus
IX. He is a solid black long haired dachshund who also carries the piebald
gene. Nic is a beautiful dachshund, and his lineage is able to compete with
the other breeds of dachshund. It is not the color of the coat that should
be judged, but the contact of its character and ability to perform that
should be the standard.

PIEBALDS ARE BEAUTIFUL PATTERNED DOGS, BUT THAT ASIDE, THE COLOR DOESN'T MAKE THE DOG. IT HAS TO HAVE CONFORMATION, AGILITY, HEALTH AND THE DESIRE FOR COMPETITION. WELL BRED DOGS THAT ARE CORRECT FOR THE SHOW RING SHOULD BE ABLE TO COMPETE AND WIN REGARDLESS OF COLOR. IT IS TIME TO JUDGE THE DOG ON THEIR MERITS NOT ON THE COLOR PATTERN OF THEIR COAT. IT IS TIME FOR SOME PEOPLE TO NOT JUDGE DOGS AS WE SHOULD NOT JUDGE PEOPLE ON THE COLOR OF THEIR SKIN. |

I am not lucky enough to be a dachshund owner (yet), but I am a longtime lover and observer of the evolution of the breed, and hope to be the lucky slave of a dachshund one day. I have to say that for the AKC, UKC, or any other recognized kennel club or association to disavow this most beautiful color pattern would be to return to the dark ages when humans were judged by their skin color instead of their inherent intelligence, beauty, or value. It is ludicrous and ridiculous to exclude the beautiful variety that piebalds bring to the breed, and I cannot imagine that intelligent dog owners, breeders or lovers would allow their exclusion. Please let the voice of reason be heard, and let piebalds be seen, appreciated, respected and acknowledged - to do otherwise is nothing short of ignorant and racist. |

I want to save the Piebald pattern. I had waited a number of years to purchase my puppy and was finally able to get one last fall. Have plans to do many things with her. What a shame it would be to not recognize them as A.K.C. breed. |

In my opinion, a color or pattern should not be allowed ONLY if it keeps that dog from doing the job it was bred for. Since the Dachshund was bred to "go to ground", I can't understand why the Piebald pattern has become an issue! Down in that dark hole, color isn't going to be important - - and I would guess that a Badger or Rabbit couldn't care less if the dog that's after it is Red or Black or Spotted or Striped! It's the dog that's UNDER those colors that the Badger and Rabbits are worried about. The Pattern needs to be allowed and it should not be considered a fault or a disqualifying feature. |

We would love to keep piebalds in the standard. We
are a big fan of the different colors, everything would be boring if they
were all black and tan or chocolate and tan or red. It is good to have a
variety!!! A dachshund is a dachshund regardless of color!!

I have a black and white (no tan) wirehaired piebald, and a red smooth mini. Every one comments how unusual the wire is, and wants to know where I got her. Piebalds are giving new life and keeping the Dachshund breed in the lime light of the pure bred world! We love both of our doxies and think that pies should not be dismissed, they are new, exciting, and beautiful. It's the structure and genetics that should be sound, Right? Why not have a beautiful and unusual coat. I have not had any medical problems with my pie. So why ban them?!?!?! Save them piebalds!! |
