I see no reason to discriminate just because of color and pattern , they are still a doxie , they have the same temperament as a dapple , brindle , and solid . I love my piebald. She is great and has a wonderful personality.

I do not have a piebald dachshund, but I think most of them are absolutely beautiful animal, and do not see why they would be disqualified from the standard. They are beautiful, and are not unlike all the other dachshunds except in coloration.

SAVE THE PIEBALDS!!!

Hello. My piebald is the cutest ever. I have no way to place her picture here. I love her so much that I made a hand-hooked primitive art rug of her. She has a white-tipped tail. She is brown and has white between her eyes (like a lassie dog), a white belly and some white up one side... and a large chest. (because her heart is so big and beautiful). Her name is Grace Anne. Her father was Zeke the Sneak. She is seven years old. I was lonely until she came to live with me. Piebalds are as vital to dog shows as any other colors. Prejudice about coloring should be eliminated.

These are the sweetest tempered dachshunds. Very smart and very trainable. Very even tempered. Not to mention the beauty and uniqueness of their coloring.

I don't own a piebald but I do own a mini dachshund and dachshunds are dachshunds, no if ands or buts! Piebalds do belong in the AKC and they know it, but are being stubborn. The piebalds I've seen on this website are absolutely beautiful and there is no reasonable reason why they are being excluded.

Oh my, I can’t believe you would ever consider taking the Piebald out of the competition. I have owned dachshunds my whole life and think they are the most beautiful dogs. Please let them compete.
Thank you for your time

I came across your site when googling for pics of doxies that might help us figure out what our beloved Flash dog is. :) We've always suspected he's basset hound mixed with something... but no idea what! I would say it's absurd to ban a specific coloration - how stupid. I attached a picture of Flashy, so you can see for yourselves why I think he's got doxie with piebald pattern mixed in. It explains his coloring, his long fur with the tufts on his feet - everything but his curly tail
Feel free to add my name to your petition. Thanks

Piebalds are the best dachshunds, although I may be a little biased. My two little bundles of Joy, Nickey (an American cream piebald) and Newton (a black and tan piebald) are just the best boys around. They, along with their big sister, Gracie, bring tons of joy into my day. The piebalds offer the variety of colors so no two dogs are the same. They also have that same fun-loving, inquisitive nature of other dachshunds. With everything piebalds have to offer, why would someone even think of banning them from the AKC, except for the reason of ignorance?

I own one beautiful piebald girl that I totally adore. In thinking about the reasons why some judges would not want the piebald colored variety in dachshunds, I was reminded of the trouble it took to get the "broken" (spotted pattern) colored pattern into the show rabbit standard years ago. I raised show rabbits for nearly 25 years and was a rabbit show judge for almost 15 years. To make this short, I feel that there was a great deal of trepidation among the judges regarding "how to judge them", i.e. how did one decide which pattern was right, etc. This was particularly upsetting to some of the judges who resisted change. It wasn't that they didn't like the variety...they just worried about the difficulty
of judging them and didn't want to be put in the position of having themselves embarrassed! This might be a factor that the AKC would want to check on before permanently removing the piebalds from our standard. The American Rabbit Breeders Association solved the problem by accepting a standard that made the judging of the variety very easy for all the judges. Their fears were addressed and the problems solved. At this point in time, the broken varieties are a very important part of many of the accepted breeds of the ARBA. Additionally, if some of the problem lies in fears of genetic problems, there could be strict rules for non-acceptance of certain genetic traits...this would take care of that problem. Who would want to continue to breed for traits that are not accepted in the show ring? There are many ways to address any problems that might arise...I'd hate to see this beautiful and obviously, well loved, variety of the breed, barred from the show ring due to easily solvable problems.

My dachshund, Longfellow, is a doxie through and through. His form, his personality, his instinct all depict the breed standard--except for the current standard for pattern. In my opinion the most important aspects of the doxie are the personality, form and health. Why should color pattern bar this tried and true dachshund from his full potential?
Please, accept the piebald in the breed standard, it is time!

Our red pie Yoda has brought so much joy and happiness to our family – I can’t imagine anyone saying he couldn’t compete alongside his differently colored peers just because he’s a pie. If it’s built like a dachshund, walks like a dachshund and loves like a dachshund – It’s a dachshund – no matter which color pattern. We love our doxy and can’t wait to get another. Look at that face - irresistible.

I have attached two pictures of my beautiful chocolate brindle piebald, Murphy. [Murph was born in Missouri in October 2007.]
What can I say? He's gorgeous. I can't imagine why this pattern would be disqualified from competition or referenced in the Standard.
Please enter my name on your petition.
Piebalds unite!

I am new to the wonderful world of mini dachshunds. My heart and love is for the choc/tan. I have searched and searched and when I finally found my first mini doxie - she is the most beautiful LH choc/tan piebald you could ever hope to find. This color pattern is beautiful I think because of the strong dominate color of white. Then you take white and add other colors, whether choc/tan, blk/tan, isabella/tan, blue/tan........ each one produces an awesome color combination. Please do not remove the piebalds from the dachshund standard. Piebalds are not only beautiful but they are special - just like the "dachshund" breed itself it special. Thank you so much.

I have 2 piebalds and absolutely could not imagine my life without them! People don't believe me when I tell them that they are brother and sister (the only 2 in the litter!) We get oohs and aahs everywhere we go because they are not seen very often. It would be a shame to have people stop breeding them because of the new standards and then have this type of doxie vanish!

C'mon they are so adorable. Color isn't the only thing that Matters. I don't have a piebald, but I have a dapple, and one of her brother's in the litter was one.
All of them should have an equal chance!

I don't have a pie, but I have long admired them. I think this rejection may be snobbery by standard doxie breeders. I think minis & standards should be separate breeds! A few years ago I saw a judge toss out an already champion pie mini long from the Specials class. The dog was handled by Don Smith of California, a longtime, very experienced doxie professional. I don't know the final result but I was shocked, especially since the dog was already proven in the ring. I checked the standard later & of course read "any hound color" was acceptable. (White coloration is associated w/ various genetic weaknesses in the animal kingdom, however, there are many dog breeds which are all or part white with no known weaknesses based on careful breeding.) I have personally been rejected by the DCA after previous membership because I didn't have the "correct" membership form & DCA couldn't find the right form to send me. Could it be because I was a longtime NMDC member & owned all minis? I don't know, but it was strange.
Good luck with "Save the piebalds"!
