I believe that piebalds should be included in the AKC standard as
they are a representation of the vast variety for
which why many love doxies. They come in all shapes, sizes, and
colors. To me, discriminating against the piebalds
is unjust. They are as much of a dachshund as would a red, black and
tan, wild boar, or English cream. Why is this
even a debate? If the representatives at the AKC don't see the logic
in this, they themselves are discriminating against a
diverse population of well breed and handled dogs. Are they afraid
of the added competition? I have seen some beautiful pies.
I am the mother of 3 doxies.
My Brady's mom is a piebald although looking at him you would never know it.

Best of luck in your endeavor. You have a great feat to accomplish.

My niece has a Piebald, and we have had Dachshunds all my life,
Miniatures, standards , reds, chocolate browns, wired hair, smooths,
Dogs that show , and dogs that breed, and some just for fun,
Each and ever one has complemented the breed and as does the PIEBALD!
Thank You!

Piebalds are some of the most interesting and beautiful doxies available. My husband and I have gotten more questions about our piebald than any other doxie at the meet ups. "I've never seen one like that before" usually is the first thing out of admirer's mouths. To not include them in the AKC would be a crime against the rest of the dachshund breed because they really do show the diversity of the colors in which doxies come. Just because they are different doesn't mean they shouldn't be show worthy.

I can't imagine excluding any Dachshund! We have 3 and they are our babies! We tell everyone who is looking for a dog that the Dachshund is the best family breed there is. It doesn't matter what color they are, it's their personalities that make them so special!!

I didn't know that the Piebald wasn't a standard for showing. This is pure discrimination and not politically correct! How will my baby "Pi" ever grow up having any self esteem? All kidding aside. In reading up on the Piebald I discovered that they have a lot of Spaniel in them. I thought she looked more like a Spaniel than a doxie. As is well known, other doxies have a lot of Terrier in them. I wonder if my Brindle has tiger in him? Anyway, maybe this "lack of standard" is due to a more recent introduction of the Piebald and it takes a while to become accepted?

I am signing this petition because I just bought a piebald doxie… I must admit that after having a "red" for 14 years I was a little set back about the color of my little guy but I fell in love with him instantly… He has the BEST temperament ( which is the reason the breeder I bought from breeds her doxies) I soon realized that color has nothing to do with breed.. He is very smart and at 9 weeks cries and goes to the door when he has to "go out" WOW! Even the 14 year old wasn’t that smart… Anyway hope this petition works!! His name is "Tebow" after the Gator's QB LOL!!!!! GO GATORS!!!

I have met a few piebalds in parks and even seen one at the local shelter.
They are just as sweet as every other doxie, please save them!

Hi, this is to save the piebald.
I bought my first piebald because of the color and how beautiful it is. I can’t imagine why, after all this time; the AKC would want to not recognize the color any longer. This is a sad day to think that the fun clowns of the dachshund world would be turned against!!
Sincerely,
Pam Van Weelden

I will save the Piebalds.
I think it is fantastic that you in US have so many colours and that include that you have the Piebalds. I think the Piebald can get more people interested in dachshounds - all over the world.

This pattern is beautiful and only enhances the wonderful variety of the dachshund breed. Daisy and Dixie agree, as does our other dachshund, Hilde, a chocolate-tan dapple.

POWER TO THE PIEBALDS!

So what if they're polka dotted? They behave, look and act just like any 'standard' dachshunds, right? I have never had a better dog than 1o month old Ellie, named after my maternal grandmother who raised dachshunds in the sixties.

SAVE THE PIEBALDS!

Piebalds are beautiful and adds to the breeds wonderful array of choices. Why would they omit it. I never thought I'd be a doxie owner until I saw photos of piebalds on the net. My family made a unanimous decision that it would be the next family pet. We drove 600 miles to pick up our black/tan piebald puppy (photo @ 3 months & 1 year old attached) up from the breeder.

I hope the AKC/DCA will reconsider their decision to keep the Piebald as a standard.

I am fairly new to the dachshund breed. I have had several different breeds over the years but have fallen crazy in love with my dachshunds. I have 3 piebalds and 1 chocolate and tan. I have thought about getting back into showing but am not ready to play the games with the AKC. Why would the AKC register piebalds but not let them be shown? Think of all the money the AKC would lose if they didn't register piebalds. Let the piebalds back in the ring!

I cannot find an acceptable reasoning behind dismissing the piebald from the dachshund standard. While I don't have any piebalds nor do I breed, I would not turn one down in favor of a dachshund with other markings in the future if it came up for adoption. This decision to exclude makes little sense to me.
What is next? Dapples? Because I have two of those!

I just recently bought my first dachshund and I love him so much . I was looking for a piebald but none available in my area. I see nothing wrong with the breed or color pattern. I still plan on adding to my family and will get a Piebald. I have a standard Black & tan go doxie.
Have a wonderful day and may God bless you

I AM a Dachshund.
How can you deny me???? Judge me on my ears being a little to short or maybe not set just right. I might have to much ticking but my colors are gorgeous.

I am completely outraged that the AKC has such an ignorant judgment on this issue! They need to realize that it is US- the breeders/owners of these wonderful creations that have the power. The AKC will not ALWAYS be the upholder of the "standard"- especially if they keep chopping and snipping off pure lineage breeds and ticking off breeders and owners! They are only asking for trouble by not allowing true variations, but then again I personally do not need some snot nosed pretensions overdressed bottle-feeder to tell me that my dog is what it is because I bred it and I know-but for those who do need reassurance -
The Piebald IS STILL A DACHSHUND AND
SHOULD BE ABLE TO PARTICIPATE IN AKC COMPETITIVE SHOWS.
Simple answer when they try to argue the point- DNA TEST!!

I have 5 doxies. They are all our pets, and 4 of them are also being used for breeding. Two are piebalds. Outside of being the best looking dachshunds we have, they are also the smartest. I have never heard of doxie intelligence having anything to do with pattern, but who knows? Maybe those who want to exclude pies just are afraid of the competition.
